British High Commissioner Anwar Chowdhury
British high commissioner Anwar Choudhury is leaving Bangladesh, capping his four-year stint. Stephen Evans will replace him in June.

"Anwar Choudhury will shortly be completing his four-year tenure as British high commissioner to Bangladesh.

He will be succeeded in the role by Stephen Evans CMG, OBE," said a press statement issued by the high commission in Dhaka.

"Choudhury, whose position in Bangladesh had been extended by a year in April 2007, has been confirmed in his new appointment to a critical senior diplomatic position at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London," the release said.

"Evans will take up his appointment in June 2008".

Evans previously served as British ambassador to Afghanistan, high commissioner to Sri Lanka and head of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office's South Asia department.
