Staff Correspondent The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Tuesday stayed a bail order for former Motijheel police chief AKM Rafiqul Islam. The vacation bench of chamber judge Md Hasan Amin issued the ruling after a government appeal against an earlier High Court verdict. The HC bench of justices Sharifuddin Chaklader and Emdadul Haque on March 25 granted Rafiq interim bail in a case that involves the killing of college student Momin. Abdur Razzak, father of Momin, filed a murder case with Kafrul Police Station against Rafiq and 24 others on Sep 13, 2005. But Rafiq's name was dropped from the chargesheet prompting Razzak to challenge the decision by filing an appeal. The HC had earlier asked Rafiq to surrender to the trial court after he sought bail. The lower court sent him to jail after he surrendered in line with the HC order. He is in jail. |
