Dollar up; Gold down

AP, LONDON -- The U.S. dollar rose against other major currencies in European trading Tuesday.

Gold prices fell.

The euro was quoted at $1.5669, down from $1.5786 late Monday in New York.

Other dollar rates compared with late Monday:

--100.34 Japanese yen, up from 99.67

--1.0051 Swiss francs, up from 0.9931

--1.0271 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0262

The British pound was quoted at $1.9753, down from $1.9845.

Gold traded in London at $893.30 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, down from $927.15 on Monday.

In Zurich, gold traded at $892.70 bid per troy ounce, down from $925.75.

Silver opened in London at $16.96 bid per troy ounce, down from $17.71.
