Staff Correspondent Former state minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmood Tuku was released on parole for four hours Friday after his mother-in-law died, a senior prisons official said. Tuku's mother-in-law Mamjida Chowdhury died in LabAid Hospital at the age of 84. Tuku started for Dhaka from Kashimpur jail around 4.00pm, deputy inspector general of prisons Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told bdnews24.com. Abed Hasan Mahmood, son of Mahmood, told bdnews24.com: "Grandma died in the morning. She would be buried at Azimpur graveyard after namaz-e-janaza at Lalmatia Mina Mosque after Asr prayers." Joint forces arrested Tuku on Feb 3, 2007. He was convicted of corruption and sentenced to nine years in jail. |
