Agency Former University Grants Commission chairman and Dhaka University professor Dr Mohammad Asaduzzaman died Friday morning of cardiac failure. He was 60. DU public administration department chairman professor Najmul Ahsan Kalimullah told bdnews24.com, "Prof Zaman suffered a heart attack in the morning at his DU residence on Issa Khan Road. He was evacuated immediately to the BIRDEM Cardiac Care Centre, where the doctors declared him dead at 10:45 am." Prof Zaman went to his department at the DU Thursday and allowed his chamber to be used for oral exams of the honours examinees, Kalimullah said. Prof Asaduzzaman started his teaching career as a lecturer at Notre Dame College, Dhaka. After joining DU, he worked through to the position of departmental chairperson, dean of the social science faculty, DU teachers' association president, DU syndicate member and in many other important academic and administrative capacities. During the BNP alliance regime, Asaduzzaman was the chairman of the UGC. The DU teachers and students thronged his residence as the sad news of his death spread in the morning. Hailing from Shibpur of Narshingdi, Zaman left behind his wife, a daughter and two sons to mourn his demise. |
