A man accused in a murder case was found dead in the custody of Mirpur police Thursday.

Police said Monirul Islam Moshiur, a resident of Monirampur in Jessore, hanged himself in the lockup.

Mirpur sub-inspector Afzal Hossain Friday told bdnews24.com: "We found him hanging with his neck tied with a lungi at about 1.30am. He was then rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and doctors declared him dead."

Police arrested Moshiur at Gabtali Bus Station Thursday afternoon in the murder case filed with Monirampur Police Station in Jessore.

A three-member committee led by assistant police commissioner Imdadul Haque for Mirpur Zone has been formed to investigate the death.

Moshiur was held at Mirpur Police Station overnight as he could not be sent to Monirampur immediately at the time.
