Speakers at a seminar Sunday urged the authority concerned to demarcate maritime boundary of Bangladesh for saving oil and gas resources, report agency.

They said sea plays an important role in the country’s socio- economic development, trade, fisheries and mineral resources and marine transportation.

Speakers at the seminar on “Problems of Bangladesh maritime boundary and explore oil and gas resources” organised by the Department of International Relations of Dhaka University (DU) at the RC Mujumder auditorium in the city.

With Professor M Ramjul Haque in the chair, former chairman of the Mongla Port Commodore (Rtd) Kurshed Alam presented the key paper in the seminar.

The speakers said the sea’s environment is facing pollution due to a number of reasons. To prevent marine pollution and maintain marine environment national and international efforts are needed.

Prof Akmol Hossain, Prof Badrul Imam, Justice Golam Rabbani, Enamul Haq, Dr Shamsul Alam, among others, addressed the seminar.
