Japan provided grant amounting to 85,236 US dollar for extension of Dhaka Progressive Lions Eye Hospital (DPLEH), reports agency. Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Masayuki Inoue has signed a grant contract with Jitendra Lal Bhowmik, Chairman of DPLEH, said a press release. Since its establishment in 1992, the hospital is providing comprehensive eye care services both in and outdoor, including surgeries and health education on eyes in Narsingdi. The hospital provides eye treatments, surgery and hospitalization free of cost or at affordable prices to economically or socially disadvantaged people. By the expansion, the capacity of surgery at the hospital will rise to 2,300 from 1,500 per month. The project is expected to benefit more than 5 million people in the area. |
