Mohammad Shahidul Haque, Secretary- in charge of the ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs died of a heart attack at LabAid Hospital Sunday morning.

He was 55, report agency. The namaj-e-janaza of Shahidul Haque was held at the Bangladesh Secretariat Jame Mosque after Zohr prayers.

Advisers of the caretaker government, cabinet secretary, secretaries of different ministries, officials and employees attended the janaza.

Mohammad Shahidul Haq was laid to eternal rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard beside his father’s grave following the second janaza held at Maghbazar.

Late Shahidul, who joined the Bangladesh civil service in 1981, served various ministries. Prior to his joining the CHT affairs ministry in February he was additional secretary of the ministry of Economic Relations Division.

A bachelor, Shahidul Haque was born in a respectable family in Sirajganj on September 11, 1953. He passed HSC examination from Dhaka College and obtained his honours and Masters degrees in Political Science from Dhaka University.

He wrote a good number of articles on literature and contemporary subjects. He wrote two stories “Parapar” and “Dalu Nadir Haowa” and also authored three novels—Jiban O Rajnoitik Bastobata”, “She Rate Purnima Chilo” and “Mukh Cheye Dekhi”.
