Pro-reformist BNP acting chairperson M Saifur Rahman Friday claimed BNP is one and united, and said whatever problems are there would be resolved through the High Court judgment, reports UNB. "Solution to the problems facing by BNP depends on court verdict. We hope we''ll get the verdict and reactive the party activities," he told reporters after a meeting with the party central leaders at his Gulshan house. The High Court is now dealing with a writ petition filed by detained BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the Election Commission''s letter that had invited the Saifur-Hafiz faction for dialogue on electoral reforms. A day before being arrested, Khaleda appointed Khandaker Delwar Hossain as BNP secretary general after expelling Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan. On BNP''s unity, Saifur said there could be a unity if the two groups could sit together to discuss the problems instead of exchanging letters. He rejected pro-Khaleda leader Brig (retd) Hannan Shah''s letter requesting Saifur-Hafiz group to sit for the unity by canceling the decisions of the controversial standing committee meeting held on October 29 last year appointing Saifur as acting chairperson and Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed as acting secretary general. "We can''t cancel the October 29''s decision. No pre-condition, rather sit with a constructive mind to find out a solution through discussions," Saifur said responding to a question. Maj (redt) Hafiz hoped that BNP will participate in the coming general election unitedly. The meeting was attended, among others, by pro-reformist leaders Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbub, Maj Gen (retd) ZA Khan, Mofazzal Karim, MA Hakim, Shah Mohammad Abul Hossain and 15 former MPs. The meeting also discussed BNP programmes to observe the Independence Day on March 26. Earlier, pro-Khaleda Ulema Dal led by Alhaj Din Mohammad Kashem held a milad mahfil at the office of Photo Journalists'' Association on the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi. |
