Angry students of Jahangirnagar University Saturday burned three buses and damaged over 13 vehicles near the campus on Dhaka-Aricha highway in protest against alleged beating of their fellowmen by transport workers at Gabtali bus station in the capital, reports UNB. Witnesses said the students put barricades on the busy highway causing huge traffic congestion for nearly two hours from 3:30pm. Police and students said the violent protests began as some transport workers equipped with sticks beat up five students at Gabtali bus station on allegation that their university bus caused a traffic jam when they got down at about 2:30pm. As the news travelled to the campus, their fellow students came out of their classes and dormitories, and put barricades on the highway in front of Savar Dairy Farm. |
