Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Lt Gen (retd) Hassan Mashhud Chowdhury Saturday said the Commission has undertaken long-term plans to stamp out corruption from society by making people aware against the all-pervasive vice, reports UNB.

"Corruption can neither be controlled by only enacting laws nor prosecuting the corrupts. A social movement will have to be launched from the grassroots level to fight it out," the ACC chairman told a pre-rally gathering here.

The colourful anti-corruption rally, jointly organised by Satkhira Sachetan Nagarik Committee and Durniti Protirodh Committee, was brought out from Shaheed Abdur Razzak Park in the morning.

The ACC chief told his audience that the Commission has undertaken some long-term plans to prevent corruption and said, "We won''t stop our works, we would carry on our crusade against corruption under any pressure." But Hassan Mashhud did not say what long-term plans his Commission has undertaken to curb corruption.

TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman also spoke at the function presided over by Advocate Tapan Kumar Chakrawarty. Some 10,000 representatives from different educational institutions, NGOs, and socio-cultural organisations joined the rally.

The rally, led by the ACC Chairman, paraded the main thoroughfares of the town and then terminated at the park.

The ACC Chairman also exchanged views with members of the local Anti-Corruption Committee and TIB officials at the local Circuit House.
