The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi marking the birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) was observed (Friday) across the country as elsewhere in the Muslim world with due religious fervour and solemnity, reports UNB.

On this day, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Muhammad (SM) was born with divine blessings and messages of peace for humankind. He also passed away the same day.

The government and various religious and socio-cultural organisations chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day. The day was a public holiday. Discussion and milad-mahfil were organised at different mosques, shrines and other institutions on the occasion.

Political parties organised indoor discussion and milad due to restrictions under the state of emergency. President Dr Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Advisor Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed in separate messages greeted the countrymen on the occasion of Miladunnabi.

The President said," Islam, preached by Hazrat Muhammad(SM), is the best ideology for overall welfare of the mankind. The Ideology he left for the welfare of the mankind, along with preaching the monotheism of Allah, has been encouraging people of the world into the path of truth and beauty for ages."

In his message Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed said Hazrat Muhammad(SM) played the pioneering role in establishing peace, harmony, equity, fraternity and humanity in the world. Fakhruddin Ahmed called upon the countrymen to devote themselves to the process of building an enlightened society based on justice through pursuing the ideals and lessons of prophet (SM) at every stage of their lives.

Both the President and the Chief Adviser wished the people of Bangladesh and the Muslim world peace, progress and welfare. Bangladesh Beter, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels aired special programmes on the occasion while newspapers published special articles on the day. Road-islands and important places in the capital were decorated with national flag and banners.
