The women’s cricket team of Hong Kong arrives in the city on Thursday on a 10-day tour when they will play four one-day matches of the EBL Women’s Cricket Series, reports UNB.

The first three matches will be played at the Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium (BSRAS) in Chittagong on March 23, 25 and 27 while the last one-dayer at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) on March 29.

All the matches will be 50-over a side affair. Ahead of the series, Bangladesh team’s coach Zafrul Ehsan felt that his side was ready for the Hong Kong challenge. “We have beaten them in Malaysia by 60-odd runs.

But they are not going to be pushovers. However, I have faith in my team and on paper we are the stronger side. We are confident of winning the series,” he said Wednesday at a media briefing.

“We are playing 50-over practice matches almost everyday. We will miss the Chinaman bowling of Champa Chakma who has college exams but the others are capable also,” he added. Salma Khatun, captain of the Bangladesh side said their strength lies in slow bowlers.

“We have four spinners and they can be very effective in our conditions.” Managing director and CEO of series sponsors Eastern Bank Limited Ali Reza Iftekhar said they are relishing the prospect. “The Bangladesh women’s team is barely a year old but they have already won an international trophy (ACC Women’s Competition in Malaysia in 2007).

We feel there is plenty of potentials in women’s cricket and that is why we have pledged our support for this series.” BCB Women’s Wing Chairperson Monwara Anis Khan was also present on the occasion.
