M’bazar gas field

President of Chevron Bangladesh Steve Wilson Wednesday said his company has already completed 40 percent work on the 3D seismic survey in Moulvibazar gas field, reports UNB.

Addressing a press conference at a local community centre, Wilson said the survey work began in January and will be completed by June next.

He said the work is being carried out without causing any harm to the environment and the allegation of destroying the environment is baseless.

Replying to a question, he said their anticipation is that there is a reserve of around 200 million cubic feet of gas in the field.

“There is no chance of any blowout like that of Magurchhara or Tengratila in the Moulvibazar gas field,” he told the journalists.

Wilson said the Moulvibazar gas field could be used to fulfil the country’s increasing demand of natural gas. He said no well would be dug in the Lauachhara reserve forest even though there is every possibility to find gas reserve in the forest.

Wilson further said emphasis is being given on protecting bio-diversity of the forest area during the survey work.

Chevron external affairs director Naser Ahmed and Community Relations manager Julfiker Ahmed Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
