The six horses presented by India to the Bangladesh army reached Benapole landport Wednesday, a customs official said.

Indian army chief Deepak Kapur presented the horses as a token of friendship to army chief Moeen U Ahmed during his India tour in February.

Col M Bhattacharjee handed over the horses on behalf of Indian army to Col Aminul Haque of the Bangladesh army.

Bhattacharjee told reporters that India had presented the horses with a view to enhancing the equestrian skills of the Bangladesh army.

The horses have been trained and carefully selected for breeding purposes.

The Bangladesh army will be able to breed a population of quality horses from the original six, the Indian army officer said.

Of the six horses, two named Arzu and Bolianto are stallions valued at Tk 1 crore each; the other four are mares.

Clearing and forwarding agency Kopotakkhi released the horses Wednesday morning, customs inspector Hashem Siddiqui told reporters.

Bangladesh army officials headed for Dhaka with the horses at 12:30 pm.
