Holders Abahani Limited again took a solo lead in the Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League beating Kalabagan KC by huge 150 runs in the 5th round match at Narayanganj Osmani Stadium in Fatullah on Tuesday, reports UNB.

With the day’s well-merited win, the popular Dhanmondi outfit Abahani topped the league table securing nine points from five matches while Kalabagan KC remained at two points playing five matches.

In the day’s other matches, City Club earned the third victory in the their 5th league match beating Old DOHS SC by four runs in an exciting match at the BKSP ground-2 while Young Pegasus Club managed their second win beating all-loser Partex SC by 65 runs at Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.

Sent in to bat first at the Narayanganj Osmani Stadium, Abahani piled up a comfortable 268 for 8 in 50 overs. Opener Mahbubul Karim contributed an entertaining 93-ball 89 featuring seven fours and one six, and was adjudged man of the match.

Besides, Anwar Hafiz (35), Nadif Chowdhury (30), Mohammad Rafique (30) and opener Jahurul Alam (27) were the other major contributors for Abahani. Raquibul Hasan grabbed three Abahani wickets for 39 runs in 10 overs while Nazmus Sadat took two for 38 runs also in 10 overs. Chasing a moderate target, Kalabagan KC were bundled out for 118 runs in 39.2 overs with national pacer-cum-lower order batsman Syed Rasel making team highest 52 runs playing 70 balls without any big hits.

Abahani’s pacer Nazmul Hasan bowled economically to pick up three wickets for just 14 runs in seven overs with a maiden while national cricketer Tushar Imran and Talha Jubear took two wickets each giving away 3 and 18 runs respectively.

At the BKSP ground, City Club opened the innings first after losing the toss and scored 204 for 9 in 50 overs with Golam Mabud scoring 65 runs hitting five fours.

Mahbub Alam and Monir Ahmed captured three wickets each for 34 and 46 runs respectively. In reply, Old DOHS SC folded their innings at just 200 runs for all in 49.3 overs, just five runs away from the victory.

National coloured batsman Mehrab Hossain scored match highest 68 runs with the help of two fours and one six while another national batsman Rajin Saleh made 64 runs featuring three fours and one six, but failed to escape the defeat.

Shafaq Al Jabir grabbed three wickets for 19 runs and scored nine runs to be adjudged man of the match while Atiqur Rahman bagged two for 35 runs. Put in to bat first at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, Partex SC were all out for 177 runs in 46.3 overs with lower order Ariful scoring 44 runs featuring four fours and two sixes.

Sabbir Khan grabbed three wickets for 23 runs while Arif Mehmud and Nazmul Islam took two wickets each conceding 25 and 35 runs respectively.

Chasing an easy target, Young Pegasus Club were dismissed for 112 runs in 38.4 overs with Arif Mehmud scoring team highest 19 runs. Mahfuzur Rahman, Omar Faruk and Rezaul Haq took two wickets each conceding 14, 16 and 25 runs respectively.
