Chief Justice of Australia Justice Gleeson hailed the ongoing reform measures taken by the Supreme Court of Bangladesh after the independence of judiciary, reports agency. He said this at a meeting with Chief Justice of Bangladesh Justice Md. Ruhul Amin who met him at the High Court of Australia in Canberra where four other Judges of the High Court bench of Australia were also present on Tuesday, a press release said. Justice Gleeson also expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Supreme Court of Bangladesh as a common affinity under the Commonwealth. He also hoped the visit would provide the Chief Justice and his members of the delegation an opportunity to acquire experiences from the learned judges of the High Court of Australia as well as from the judges of the Supreme Court of New South Wales during the meetings in Sydney from February 6-8. Bangladesh Chief Justice also hoped that the visit would be helpful in understanding the judicial system of Australia which is similar to the judicial system of Bangladesh as both nations are the members of the Commonwealth. He invited theChief Justice of Australia to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time. In the meeting from the Bangladesh side Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah, judge of the high court Divisin of the Supreme court, Ikteder ahmed, Register,Bangladesh Supreme Court, Syed Aminul Islam, Project Director (joint secretary),legal and judicial capacity building project, Md shawkat Hossain, District and Session judge, Comilla,AQM Mostafa, Special officer of the supreme court and Md Restadil Islam, Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh were present. Later in the evening, in honour of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh, a dinner was hosted by the Acting High Commissioner at the Bangladesh House where justice Michael Kirby, one of the judges of the High Court of Australia was also present. Justice Kirby, who takes a lot of interest about Bangladesh, hoped to visit Bangladesh soon. The Chief Justice Md. Ruhul Amin will be meeting with the Chief Justice of Supreme Court of NSW James Jacob Spigelman, AC today in Sydney. |
