Call for taking info to doorsteps of people PDF Print E-mail

Speakers at a discussion Monday unequivocally said information should be taken to the doorsteps of general people for the sake of running the nation towards prosperity, reports agency.

In this context, they said many people could not take part in the nation-building activities due to lack of update information despite their willingness.

They, however, praised the present government for announcing the ‘Information Rights Ordinance-2008 (draft)’, which had been desired by the people for long, along with keeping it open for public opinion.

The government’s initiative would contribute a lot to implement the rights to information of mass-people, they added while addressing the discussion styled “People’s Information Rights: Right to get information about the activities of the International Financial Institutions”.

Voice, an organization for development research and advocacy, and Barendra Unnayan Prochesta (BUP) jointly arranged the meeting at the GDRC conference hall in Rajshahi.

Voice Secretary Ahmed Swapan Mahmud and BUP Secretary Foyzullah Chowdhury addressed the discussion as key persons. NGO leaders SKL Muhammad Lalon and Salahuddin and journalists Akbarul Hassan Millat, Rashed Ripon, Shibly Noman and Shafiqul Islam took part in the discussion, among others.

Speakers said the rights of information have widely been accepted as fundamental human rights for the management of knowledge-based, fair and democratic society.
