AP, LONDON -- The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Friday morning. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.5557, down from $1.5587 late Thursday in New York. Earlier Friday the euro notched a record high of $1.5651.

Other dollar rates:

--100.62 Japanese yen, down from 102.04

--1.0102 Swiss francs, down from 1.0143

--0.9861 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0141

The British pound was quoted at $2.0276, down from $2.0292.

Gold traded in London at $997.00 per troy ounce, up from $993.60 late Thursday.

In Zurich, gold traded at $995.55 bid per troy ounce, up from $990.90.

Silver opened in London at $20.61, up from $20.52.
