Rights body renews call for trial of war criminals PDF Print E-mail

A three-day drama festival on human rights concluded in the Dhaka city on Tuesday with a renewed call for the trial of war criminals and establishing secular democratic society.

Ain O Salish Kendra, which organised the festival, also honoured three talents at the concluding session for their contribution to respective fields.

They are women leader Hena Das, journalist Kamal Lohani and playwright Mamunur Rashid. Salish Kendra executive director Sultana Kamal, journalist Sahin Reza Noor, awardees Hena Das, Kamal Lohani and Mamunur Rashid also spoke on the occasion.

‘Through the staging of dramas on human rights, we shall continue our campaign for raising awareness of the trial of war criminals,’ Sultana Kamal, also a former adviser to the caretaker government, said. She said theatre movement could play an important role in realising the demand for uni-track education and in eliminating discrimination against women.

The festival featured staging of 20 street dramas by various human rights theatre groups in Dhaka and elsewhere.

Seven theatre groups — Human Rights Theatre Council of Mymensingh, Human Rights Theatre Council of Kishoreganj, Human Rights Theatre Council of Pabna, Swapnadal, Dhaka, Nagarik Udyog, Dhaka, Udyog Theatre, Tangail, and Aranyak, Dhaka — staged dramas on the concluding day. Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president and theatre director Nasir Uddin Yousuff on Sunday inaugurated the festival at Rabindra Sarobor in Dhanmondi.
