The detained BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, told her lawyers on Thursday that she was not willing to go abroad for treatment.

Khaleda’s counsels, Mahbub Uddin Khokan and Masud Ahmed Talukder, met her in the special jail on the Jatiya Sangsad complex after four members of the anti-corruption taskforce interrogated her.

After the meeting Mahbub Uddin Khokan said that the BNP chairperson ruled out any possibility of going abroad for treatment. ‘I want to take treatment in the country.

Whatever happens to my life, I will take treatment here and I do hope that I will be cured with the treatment here’, Mahbub quoted Khaleda to have said.

Khaleda, also a former prime minister, has been suffering from arthritis and some other complications. Khaleda also urged the leaders and activists of BNP to maintain unity and go by the party constitution, Mahbub said.

She said that she would allow only the activities carried out in line with the party constitution, Mahbub added.
