Sports Correspondent Bangladesh will have a chance to have a look at their four new recruits before the one-day series when they will play a warm-up game against South Africa at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium. All-rounder Sakib al Hasan will lead the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in the game that will see as many as nine players of the one-day squad in action. Sakib also led the BCB XI in the three-day warm-up match that was held at the Fatullah stadium ahead of the Test series. Bangladesh had finished on top in the three-day match, but went on to suffer a 2-0 defeat in the subsequent Test series. Sakib, who put up a decent show in the three-day warm-up game, can help Bangladesh regain their confidence. ‘Most of the players we have for this match are new to international cricket. So it is important for us to see how they perform. If they can do well in the warm-up game definitely it will lift Bangladesh’s confidence,’ Sakib told reporters on Thursday. ‘There is no pressure on me. Maybe some of us can feel it, but I hope the players will be able to play their normal game. Personally I will go there and play as a normal player,’ said Sakib. Naeem Islam, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sajedul Islam and Rubel Hossain are the only four players who have been picked for the match despite their not being members of the Bangladesh one-day squad. It was not yet decided whether both the sides will play any serious cricket in the game or will give all 13 players a chance to tune themselves up. Sakib said the match is crucial for some of his team-mates to enhance their concentration in limited-over cricket after the Test series. BCB XI: Sakib al Hasan, Nazimuddin, Tamim Iqbal, Junaed Siddique, Roqibul Hasan, Naeem Islam, Mahmudullah Riyad, Dhiman Ghosh, Farhad Reza, Mosharraf Hossain, Syed Rasel, Sajedul Islam and Rubel Hossain. South Africa squad: Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Paul Harris, Charl Langeveldt, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Andre Nel, Alviro Petersen and Dale Steyn. |
