| Thai food festival begins in Dhaka today |

Staff Correspondent An 11-day Thai food festival, featuring authentic Thai cuisine prepared by a group of Thai chefs begins at Westin Dhaka Hotel on Saturday. A cultural troupe from Thailand will entertain the guests at the inaugural function of the festival jointly organised by the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka and Westin. Finance and planning adviser, Mirza Azizul Islam, is expected to inaugurate the festival at the grand ballroom of Westin at 7:00pm. The Thai ambassador, Chalermpol Thanchitt, speaking at a press conference on Thursday said Thai food and fruit festival in Bangladesh has become an annual event to provide Bangladeshi people with authentic taste of Thai food. He said the festival would also create an atmosphere that will make the guests as traveling to Thailand. Calvin Stevenson, the executive assistant manager and director of food and beverage department of the Westin Hotel, said Thai cuisine is capturing the global plates with its intense flavors and eye-appealing presentations. The buffet dinner will be available every day from March 9-18 at Taste restaurant and Thai cuisine cooking class by professional instructions from Thailand from March 9-12 between 3:00pm and 6:00pm at Taste restaurant. Visitors at the festival will also get a chance to win a round trip air ticket to Thailand. Usa Wijarurn, director of Thai Trade Center in Dhaka, Prakit Piriyakiet, executive director of ASEAN, South Asia and Pacific Tourism Authority of Thailand and ATM Hafizullah, director of Sales and Marketing of the Westin hotel were, among others, present at the press conference. |
