Family members of college student Kamrul Islam Momin, who was shot dead by criminals near his Kafrul residence in 2005, on Wednesday demanded judicial probe into the killing.

At a press briefing held at the Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh in Segunbagicha, Momin’s father Abdur Razzak alleged that both the investigation officers of Criminal Investigation Department and Detective Branch submitted charge sheets to the court after they had deliberately excluded the names of some accused, including main suspect Rafiqul Islam, the then officer-in-charge of the Motijheel police station.

Rejecting both the charge sheets, he said the investigation officer of CID on May 13, 2007 filed the charge sheet omitting 18 accused, including OC Rafiqul Islam, named in the first information report.

The investigation officer of DB also excluded 17 accused, including Rafiq, in the supplementary charge sheet submitted to the court on Monday, Razzak added.

He also urged the government to ensure the security of his family members. Momin’s mother Rahima Khanam, brothers Saiful Islam, Shamsul Islam, Nazrul Islam and Enamul Islam and sisters Subina Akter and Farzana Akter were present at the press conference.
