The government has selected one institution and three persons for the Independence Award 2008 in recognition of their glorious and meritorious contributions at the national level.

According to a statement released by the Press Information Department Tuesday, Bangladesh Rifles gets the award in the institution category for its contribution in the War of Liberation.

Shaheed Dr Syed Muhammad Shamsuzzoha and Dr Gobinda Chandra Dev (martyred intellectual Dr GC Dev) were given the award posthumously for their contribution in the independence and liberation war.

Prof Rehman Sobhan has been given the award for his contribution in the field of research and training. Chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed gives away the awards at Osmany Memorial Hall on March 25, the PID said.
