The Dhaka Stock Exchange at a board meeting on Sunday deferred the date for holding its 46th annual general meeting to May 15, said officials.

‘The DSE has rescheduled the AGM date, which was earlier scheduled to be held on March 13,’ said a senior official of the DSE. On February 28, the DSE got permission of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms for deferral of the AGM.

The regulator asked the bourse to hold the AGM within June 15. The DSE sought permission for the AGM date deferment so that the AGM could be held after holding the election to the posts of four directors of the DSE board. The DSE official said the bourse would announce fresh election schedule on Monday .

Earlier, the DSE directorship polls scheduled for March 9 could not be held as all candidates withdrew their candidatures. On February 24, the last date for withdrawal of candidature, three candidates — MA Mumin, chairman of the Surma Securities Holding Co, Dastagir Md Adil, managing director of the Adil Securities, and Mohammad Lutfar Rahman, managing director of the Latif Securities — withdrew their candidatures.

Earlier on February 20, six candidates out of nine pulled out themselves from the race. They are Md Feroz Khan, managing director of the Eminent Securities, Md Rafiqul Islam, managing director of the Parkway Securities, Mujibur Rahman, managing director of the Prudential Securities, Azizur Rahman, managing director of the Globe Securities, Khondker Asadul Islam, chief executive officer of the IDLC Securities, and Anwar Hossain, managing director of the Anwar Securities.

There are 12 elected and 12 nominated directors in the board of directors of the DSE. According to the DSE constitution, four elected directors retire every year and four others replace them through direct voting. The new directors are elected for a three-year term.
