Staff Correspondent A three-day workshop was launched in Dhaka on Sunday, aimed at enhancing knowledge on the basic elements of humanitarian laws among the officials concerned for their better implementation and application. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Committee of Red Cross in Dhaka organised the workshop on humanitarian laws for the officials of different ministries. Foreign affairs adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury inaugurated the workshop at the Fakhruddin Memorial Hall of the foreign ministry, said a press release. Iftekhar said the workshop was part of the government’s efforts to fulfil certain obligations emanating from the very event of acceding to the major international humanitarian laws and relevant international treaties. ‘The training session was important because of our deployment of troops across the world as peacekeepers and peace-builders,’ he added. The ICRC head of mission in Dhaka Finn Ruda said the workshop was an important step to facilitate implementation of the same treaty obligations into national legislation to coherence between international and national obligations. The officials of the home, law, justice and parliamentary affairs, women and children affairs, defence, foreign affairs and disaster management ministries participated in the workshop. |
