Watsan Expo in Dhaka Begins PDF Print E-mail

A two-day exposition on water and sanitation, titled ‘Watsan Expo 2008’ marking United Nations International Year of Sanitation 2008 begins at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Centre in Dhaka.

Water Aid Bangladesh, an NGO, will organise the exposition to make people aware of drinking safe water and using sanitation for helping the government to achieve 100 percent sanitation coverage by 2010, said the Water Aid acting country representative, M Azahar Ali, at a news conference at the National Press Club.

The LGRD and cooperatives adviser M Anwarul Iqbal would inaugurate the exposition, which will remain open from 10:00am to 6:00pm daily.

The objective of the fair is to bring attention of all concerned of the sector in a common platform and increase their awareness of importance of water and sanitation, Azhar said.

The NGO’s programme director Hasin Jahan and policy advocacy director Ishtiaq Ali Zinnah also spoke at the press conference.

Jahan said 30 organisations, involved in ensuring safe water supply and sanitation to all in the country, will participate in the exposition to demonstrate current approaches and technologies.

Three seminars on `sustainable of water supply and sanitation programme’, `technology in water supply and sanitation’ and `poverty, equity and gender in watsan’ will also be held during the exposition, she said.
