Staff Correspondent The chief election commissioner, ATM Shamsul Huda, on Tuesday said the commission was annoyed at the apprehension expressed repeatedly by various quarters that the elections may not be held by December 2008. 'We are really fed up with such repeated apprehension,' Shamsul said, pointing out what the political parties at separate meetings referred to as 'public apprehension' about the possibility that the polls might not be held by December. 'Let some people continue to express such apprehensions and let us go ahead with our determination to hold the polls by this December,' he said at the dialogue with the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh in the commission. On the third day of the second round of talks on electoral reforms, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Inu) and the National Awami Party (Muzaffar) separately sat with the commission in its conference room. The parties asked the commission to follow the electoral roadmap for free, fair and impartial elections by the end of the year. |
