Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its key ally in the 2001-06 coalition government Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh have said implicating former prime minister Khaleda Zia and her cabinet colleagues in the coalmine graft case is a step to repress and harass them politically.

'The case was filed only to harass the former prime minister and her colleagues in the previous cabinet,' BNP secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain said in a reaction to the case filed on Tuesday with Shahbagh police station in Dhaka.

Anti-corruption Commission sued Khaleda and 15 of her former cabinet colleagues, including Jamaat leaders Matiur Rahman Nizami and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, for their alleged involvement in graft over Barapukuria coalmine deal.

Delwar said that his party would fight the case in court and hoped they would get justice.

This is the continuation of harassment on the former prime minister and members of her family and the party as well, he added.

Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid said that it was nothing but a 'repressive measure' by the government against political leaders.
