Our Correspondent The daily-basis labourers of state-owned Jessore Jute Industries Ltd and Carpeting Jute Mills Ltd continued their strike for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday. The labourers of the two jute mills went on the strike on February 23 to press home their five-point demands, including payment of all dues, regular weekly wages, overtime benefits and issuance of gate pass for temporary labourers. They also observed a strike for 15 days from January 1. About 1,500 daily-basis labourers had been staging demonstrations on their mill premises at Nawapara since January 1. Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation has 18 jute mills in its three zones —Dhaka, Khulna and Chittagong. |
