Pace bowler Shahadat Hossain was repaid for his nine-wicket haul in the first Test against South Africa in Dhaka when he jumped 12 places in the latest LG ICC players' rankings.

Shahadat, who was playing only his 14th Test, is now ranked at 38th position, just behind his new-ball partner Mashrafee bin Murtaza. Mohammad Rafique is the highest ranked Bangladesh Test bowler.

The biggest mover for Bangladesh in the latest ranking that was published on Tuesday however is opening batsman Junaed Siddique, who jumped 23 places from 98 to 75. Overall Bangladesh have eight bowlers and nine batsmen in the top 100.

The bowlers are Mohammad Rafique (31), Mashrafee bin Murtaza (37), Enamul Haque (53), Syed Rasel (62), Mohammad Ashraful (75), Mehrab Hossain (81), Sajedul Islam (90) and Sakib al Hasan (97). The Bangladeshi batsmen in the top 100 are Mohammad Ashraful (46), Habibul Bashar (54), Shahriar Nafees (54), Rajin Saleh (60), Aftab Ahmed (74), Junaed Siddique (75) Khaled Mashud (83), Mohammad Rafique (83) and Tamim Iqbal (83).

Among the South Africans, pace bowler Dale Steyn is the biggest gainer after the first Test. He is now just 37 points behind the world leader Muttiah Muralitharan.

He remains the highest rated fast bowler on the LG ICC world rankings and, with 870 points, is closing rapidly on the magical mark of 900, a level that has only been achieved by a handful of modern era bowlers.

After taking 13 Tests to take his first 50 wickets, Steyn has taken 47 in his next six for an astonishing average of eight wickets per Test match.

He took seven in the recently completed match on a pitch that offered him no assistance. He goes into Friday's second Test against Bangladesh at Chittagong needing just two wickets to reach 100 Test dismissals in only his 20th Test match.
