Death threat to Anu condemned PDF Print E-mail

Various political parties and organisations on Monday condemned the threat to kill a teacher of Jahangirnagar University's economics department, Professor Anu Muhammad, over the telephone.

A man named Mahmud Hasan on Friday threatened to kill Anu Muhammad unless he refrained from teaching and taking part in television talk shows.

The leaders of the political parties and organisations called on the government to take immediate action against the person or quarters who issued the death threat.

The Left Democratic Front, a combine of the left-leaning political parties, in a press statement on Monday condemned the incident and called on the government to arrest the person responsible and give him exemplary punishment.

The Democratic Left Alliance, another combine of the left-leaning political parties, also condemned the death threat.

The People's Commission for Jute and Jute industry, a citizen's body, also condemned the death threat to Anu Muhammad, its member.

The Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, 11-Krishok Khetmojur Sangathan and Bangladesh Chhatra Union demanded arrest and punishment of the responsible person.
