SCC mayor's case shifted to special anti-smuggling court PDF Print E-mail

The case filed against Sylhet city's mayor, Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, under the Narcotics Control Act was transferred to the anti-smuggling special court in Sylhet on Monday for trial.

District and sessions judge MA Gafur transferred the case to the special court and fixed March 17 for the next hearing.

Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, detained mayor of the Sylhet City Corporation, was produced in the court during the hearing. Kamran was taken to the Sylhet Central Jail from the Comilla Jail on Wednesday midnight.

He was sent back to the Comilla Jail in the evening under the stringent guard of the joint forces, said Sylhet jail authorities. The Kotwali police picked up mayor Kamran on May 28, 2007 from Gulshan Hotel in the capital and seized certificates worth Tk 35 lakh, Tk one lakh in cash and a bottle of foreign liquor from his Kalighat residence after searching it thoroughly.

The police recorded a case in this connection against the mayor under the Narcotics Control Act for keeping the liquor in his possession illegally on the same day of his detention, said sources in the police.
