Our Correspondent Fourteen people died in a road accident at Ramu in Cox's Bazar on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway on Thursday. The deceased included six women and a child. Fifteen more were injured. The Cox's Bazar police superintendent, Banaj Kumar Majumdar, and witnesses one of the six buses, carrying about 300 workers of the Chittagong-based Trade and Scanning Apparels on a tour to Cox's Bazar, skidded off into a ditch at Rashidnagar of the upazila and hit an electric pole. Fourteen, including a local resident, died as the bus became electrocuted after the pole had fallen on the bus. Two of the 15 injured were admitted to Ramu Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition. The deceased who could be immediately identified were Nabi Hossain, 22, of Bharogakhali in Cox's Bazar, Jasim Uddin, 24, Rehena Begum, 20, Parvin Akter, 25, Hasina Akter, 17, Paki Begum, 18, Arif, 25, and Keya Begum, 25, and her four-year-old son. Nabi Hossen died as the bus fell on him. The Cox's Bazar police and fire service people rescued the injured. The Cox's Bazar deputy commissioner, Sajjadul Hassan, and the police superintendent visited the place. Sajjadul said all the bodies had been sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital for post-mortem examinations. |
