Teachers, students and staff of geology and mining department of Rajshahi University on Saturday urged the chief adviser to take steps to complete the trail process of Prof S Taher Ahmed murder case.

They observed Saturday as ‘mourning day’ to commemorate their favourite teacher Prof Dr Taher, who was murdered on February 2, 2006.

Department chairman Professor Kamrul Hassan Mojumder presided over a condolence meeting, where teachers and colleagues resented the slow progress of the murder case that landed six persons, including a teacher and the Jamaat-backed student wing leader of the university in jail.

Prof Dr Musfik Ahmed blamed the RU authorities for not arranging programme to mark the second anniversary of death of Prof Taher. Speakers urged the caretaker government chief to expedite the trial process and punish the culprits.

Department teachers Hamidur Rahman, Anwrul Islam, Kamrul Hassan, Habibur Rahman, Sarwar Jahan Sajal, Badrul Islam and Khandoker Emamul Haque, student Shafiqul Islam and employee Muktar Hossain spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, more than 500 teachers and students gave signatures in a mass campaign demanding quick trial of the murder case.
