Staff Correspondent The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday submitted the charge sheet against former Public Works Department chief engineer AFM Manjurul Islam and his wife Akhter Jahan Ruby in a case filed on charge of concealing information and acquiring wealth beyond their known sources of income. The commission's deputy director Syed Iqbal Hossain, also the investigation officer, filed the charge sheet with the chief metropolitan magistrate's court. The couple are charged with concealing information of assets of Tk 38 lakh and acquiring wealth of more than Tk 1.01 crore that do not match their legal of income, according to the charge sheet. The commission's assistant director Sheikh Mizbahuddin filed the case with the Gulshan police against Manjurul and his wife on September 6, 2007. The charge sheet was submitted under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, Penal Code and Emergency Powers Rules 2007. Manjurul, named on the second lists of 50 corruption suspects announced by the commission on April 17, submitted his wealth statement on July 6, 2007 through his representative. He and his wife are now in hiding, the investigation officer said in the charge sheet. |
