Our Correspondent The anti-corruption task force has started investigation into illegal wealth of about Tk 100 crore earned by three Titas gas contractors from illegal gas connections and meter tampering at industries such as dyeing and lime industries in Narayanganj, sources said. The gas contractors are Rimi Constructions owner Emran Hossain Dewan, Sumi Enterprise owner Ibrahim Mamun, and Mobarak Enterprise owner Mokhter Ahmed of Narayanganj. Sources in the task force said after primary inquiries they had traced a huge amount of wealth illegally earned by the contractors. The task force started inquiry into the corruption by the officials at the Titas Gas area office in Narayanganj four months ago. The task force initially prepared a list of corruption suspects. It later found an organised group engaged in pilfering gas. The task force arrested Titas Gas head office accounts assistant Mohammed Hanif Shiekh of Hajiganj of Narayanganj and extracted from him the names of suspects. The sources said the contractors crores of takas between 1991 and 2006. They earned wealth of Tk 100 crore. |
