The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday approved a proposal for the notification of four corruption suspects, including former deputy minister Asadul Habib Dulu and former lawmaker for Savar Dewan Salahuddin, asking them to submit their wealth statements.

Dulu and Salahuddin were named on the fourth list of high-profile corruption suspects announced by the commission on October 4, 2007.

Two others to be notified are deputy assistant director of Habiganj regional passport office Mohammad Hossain Ahmed and Habiganj sub-registrar Syed Abdul Bashir.

They will be asked to submit their wealth statements. The commission’s investigation teams and the army-led anti-corruption task forces, in preliminary inquires, found them to be owning assets disproportionate to their known sources of income, the source said.

The commission also approved the submission of a charge sheet against Janakantha editor Mohammad Atiqullah Khan Masud and his wife Shamima A Khan for hiding information on wealth of Tk 1,29,96,651 in their statements and acquiring wealth of Tk 54,58,130 beyond their known sources of income.

The charge sheet will also be filed against former Public Works Department chief engineer AFM Manjurul Islam and his wife Akhter Jahan Ruby for amassing Tk 39,59,005, disproportionate to their known sources of income, the commission’s director general for administration Hanif Iqbal told reporters at the regular briefing.

The commission also approved charges in a case filed with the Ramna police on April 20, 2006 against former deputy general manager of Bapex Nurul Islam and its former assistant manager (geology) Mohammad Alamgir Kabir for their alleged corruption in the appointment for the post of assistant manager (geology) in violation of rules.
