A group of agents engaged to lure affluent patients in Bangladesh to seek medical treatment abroad are trying to destroy the image of a private hospital that provides world class treatment.

The claim was made by AM Shamim, managing director of LabAid Group in response to controversy over the mismanagement and maltreatment of LabAid.

AM Shamim, addressing a press conference on Saturday at a city hotel, claimed that a doctor who recently resigned from Labaid is also playing a vital role to destroy the hospital's image at home and abroad.

'Due to good services in most private hospitals in the country, foreign hospitals that were doing brisk business with Bangladeshi patients, feel threatened about losing their business,' he said.

So, they engaged their agents, he said. Chief administrator of Labaid, Monjur A Mollah, read a written statement and briefed about the hospital's activities and successes for the past few years.

Among others, director of academic affairs and professor of cardiology, M Zalal Uddin, senior consultant of cardiology Abdus Zaher and Baren Chak-raborty addressed the briefing.

Answering a question of the media, regarding alleged malpractices, Shamim said, 'We are ready to face any kind of legal punishment, if we were wrong.'

On January 23, relatives of victims alleged financial malpractice, wrong treatment and poor services at Labaid at a press conference and publicly complained against the hospital.
