Dhaka In an important move, the government decided to form welfare committee at every garment factory of the country for ensuring 'overall welfare and enhancing living standard' of the workers of the export industry. Besides, as a measure of streamlining the apparel sector, the government also decided to introduce service book at the factories. 'The welfare committee comprises 5 to 10 members in coordination with garment-factory officials and workers,' said an official announcement on Tuesday. The decisions were made at a meeting with midlevel officials of MGMEA, BKMEA and officials and workers' leaders of seven garment factories of Mirpur area, held in the LGRD ministry conference room with the LGRD and labour and employment ministry adviser, Anwar Iqbal, in the chair. Addressing the meeting the adviser of the caretaker government urged the midlevel officials to work as a 'bridge for welfare of the owners and workers' of the apparel sector. He urged the workers to work sincerely and not to get confused with rumours. He also declared a move to file cases with labour court against the management of 150 garment factories who failed to implement the agreed minimum wage scale |
