Staff Correspondent Task force intelligence personnel are now interrogating former deputy minister of the BNP-Jamaat alliance government Abdus Salam Pintu about the August 21 grenade attack on an Awami League rally. Earlier on Thursday night, a squad of the Criminal Investigation Department arrested Pintu in front of the Motijheel Government Boys High School in Dhaka. Pintu was shown arrested in the case relating to August 21 grenade attack filed with the Motijheel police station. He was taken on a three-day police remand on Friday. A five-member TFI team is currently interrogating Pintu about the gruesome grenade attack at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka on August 21 in 2004, in which at least 24 people including Ivy Rahman were killed and 200 others injured. They also interrogated Pintu about his brother Maulana Tajuddin, allegedly one of the masterminds of the attack, and about the two meetings allegedly held at his Dhanmondi residence as part of the plan to carry out the attack, said sources close to the interrogators. TFI personnel may soon interrogate Pintu and his relative Maulana Abu Taher, arrested from a mess at Mohammadpur in the city for his alleged involvement, face to face for cross checking information gathered from them. Law enforcers are now desperately trying to nab Maulana Tajuddin, for which the Bangladesh police have also issued an arrest warrant against through the INTERPOL. |
