Staff Correspondent Madhusudan Mondal of Ekattur Television and Azhar Mahmud of Bangladesh Television have been elected president and general secretary to the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh respectively for 2008. Madhu secured 68 votes to defeat his rivals Aminur Rahman Taj of Amader Shamoy, who got 48 and Shankar Kumar Dey of Janakantha who bagged 44 votes in the election to the executive committee of the association held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday. Azhar Mahmud polled 99 votes beating his rival Arif Rahman of daily Korotoa, who got 54 votes. The other elected executives of the 13-member committee include Kamruzzaman Khan of Bhorer Kagoj, organising secretary, Russell Akter of Samokal, publicity and publication secretary, Umar Faruk Alhadi of Inquilab, training and research secretary, Osman Gani Babul of Korotoa, sports and cultural secretary, and Shahjahan Akand Shuvo of Amader Shamoy, office secretary. Abul Khair of Ittefaq, Mithun Kamal of Inquilab and Nitya Gopal Tutu of Ekattur News Service were elected members to the association. Three other executives were earlier elected unopposed. Akhtaruzzaman Lavlu of Bhorer Kagoj was made vice-president, Isaraf Hossain Isa of News Today joint secretary and Mohammad Momin Hossain of Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha was elected treasurer. |
