After a recent lull the bite of the winter returned with a mild cold wave since Sunday night blowing across the country.

The Met Office warned it might sweep Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions, and Jessore, Kushtia, Tangail, Mymensingh, Comilla and Sitakundu regions in next 24 hours beginning at 6:00pm Monday.

Met Office sources said the cold winter returned when the westerly low disappeared towards the northeast on Sunday, helping the high pressure zone spreading over Bangladesh from northern India.

The first cold wave came for a short spell on December 20 and ended on December 22. The second spell came on January 5. But it was confined only over Rajshahi and Ishwardi regions.

The third arrived on Sunday and may last at least until Tuesday, the Met Office sources said.
