The workers of the Partex Board Mills in Narayanganj blocked the Dhaka–Chittagong Highway at Madanpur for an hour from 10:00am Sunday.

Several hundred vehicles remained stranded on both ends of the road stretch. The workers went out on demonstrations demanding increase in salary and allowance, job regularisation and pay-scale implementation.

The police reached the place and dispersed the workers from the road. The workers then staged a sit-in demonstration in front the Partex Board Mills at Haripur. The police and local people said the workers had been demanding an increase in their salary for long. But the mill authorities did not heed their demand although essential goods prices kept increasing, they said.

The mill workers left their work at about 9:00am and made for the demonstrations. The mill's general manager Aurangazeb Choudhury said pay-scale was implemented at the mill this month. He said the workers joined work at about 2:30pm after a meeting between the workers, police and mill authorities.
