ACC receives Arafat's wealth statement PDF Print E-mail

Arafat Rahman, the youngest son of the detained former prime minister Khaleda Zia, on Thursday submitted his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission through jail authorities showing that he owns assets of about Tk 6 crore.

The commission's director general (administration) Hanif Iqbal said the commission had received Arafat's wealth statement submitted to the jail authorities on Wednesday.

Hanif said the details of the statement could be known on Sunday. Arafat's counsel, Ahmed Azam Khan, said, 'As far as I can remember, the statement said my client owns wealth of about Tk 6 crore.'

The commission asked Arafat on December 18, 2007 to submit his wealth statement. He received the notice on December 20, 2007 through the jail authorities.

Arafat, along with her mother Khaleda, also the BNP chairperson, was arrested on September 3, 2007 in connection with the GATCO case filed by the commission on the day.
