Bhutto's son, Bilawal along with his father, Zardari to lead partyThe 19-year-old son of assassinated Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, Bilawal Zardari, has been appointed chairman of her Pakistan People's Party (PPP) along with his father, Asif Ali Zardari.

"It has been decided that Bilawal will be the chairman and Mr (Asif Ali) Zardari will be co-chairman," one of the party officials said.

"I'm thankful for the CEC (Central Election Commission) for imposing their trust in me as chairman of the Pakistan's People's Party," Bilawal Zardari said at a news conference.

Ms Bhutto's widower, Asif Ali Zardari appealed to the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to drop his threat to boycott the polls.

"Today's general would like to run (from the election)," he said, in a reference to President Musharraf. "We would not like to give him that chance."

Mr Zardari and his son were speaking at a news conference after a meeting of the leadership of the PPP to hear Ms Bhutto's political will.
