The Bangladesh government has exempted customs duty on clothes that will be imported for the cyclone-affected people, private news agency UNB reported Thursday.

The factory owners of the Export Processing Zones will also enjoy the exemption in case they donate clothes to the cyclone-affected people.

Foods, food grains, medicines, tube-wells, seeds and the like are exempted from customs duty.

The cyclone Sidr battered Bangladesh's southern and southwestern coastal areas on Nov. 15 night, leaving more than 3,000 dead and millions homeless.

The Bangladesh caretaker government Wednesday sought 2.2 billion U.S. dollars worth of assistance from international donors to finance post-cyclone rehabilitation schemes and sustainable disaster protection program in the affected coastal areas.
